Trade Aid Capacity Building Project
Through its long-term collaboration with Trade Aid New Zealand (2005–2017), Sarba Shanti Ayog (SSA) implemented a comprehensive series of infrastructural and capacity-building interventions that strengthened producer competence across weaving, printing, stitching, leather, bamboo, candle, spice processing, and natural fibre groups.
Producers benefited from modern tools, improved workplace layouts, safety enhancements, and process standardization. SSA delivered specialized technical and design inputs through expert trainers, including resource persons mobilized through PUM Netherlands. Artisan enterprises such as RASA, Asha Niketan, Ushagram Lokoshikshaniketan, Chhandrabati Mahila Samity, and Brindaban Prints reported improved quality, expanded product ranges, and increased market access.
A key milestone of this partnership was the development of a comprehensive Social Audit Framework that enabled Trade Aid and partner enterprises to assess social, environmental, and economic performance. The framework was later adapted regionally—strengthening Fair Trade accountability and transparency.
Broad Key Outcomes
- Enhanced infrastructure, quality systems, and production capacity across 35+ artisan groups.
- Improved compliance with international Fair Trade, workplace safety, and quality standards.
- Social Audit Framework developed and adopted by Trade Aid and regional Fair Trade networks.
